MessageReal community type atmosphere within Davidson Hall and the ABE Dept. and still today in the business world when someone says they are a grad of the ABE dept. at ISU the fellowship is still there; some common ground I guess.

The ASAE Tractor Design Competition is a great program to be a part of to learn true real world challenges from design to manufacturing to testing. For those that make the committement, the time spent working on the project is a great investment for their future careers in industry.

I am writing to convey my best wishes to you and to the ABE department as the 100th anniversary of AE at ISU approaches. I have delighted in my personal interactions and collaborative activities with AE faculty and students. I am now in my 24th year at ISU, and much of my scientific work has benefited immensely from the working relationships I have shared with AE's. AE faculty and students have made tremendous contributions to the understanding of agricultural water quality processes, and they have been leaders in developing management practices to protect our waters. I send my sincere thanks to past and present members of the department, and I extend my best wishes to the department for a great 2nd century of discovery and achievement.

The ABE department at ISU was a great experience, I enjoyed the community atomsphere that the department had. The homemade ice cream social at the beginning of freshman year (1967) was a great way to meet the faculty and upperclass students and discuss areas of interest. Duane Mangold went out of his way to see the students got the best class schedule and other problems resolved. Dr. Miner and all the other faculty were the best and expected the best from the students. The meeting at Dr. Howard Johnson's house for the PhT awards (Putting hubby Through) for the married students was a great idea to recognize the sacrifices of the wives. The time that Dr. Buchele was so animated in demonstrating his handheld corn sheller that he developed for use in Africa and in the process he accidently stepped into the trash can but it did not break his concentration in finishing his demo or explanation. I am sure he had time to get the can unwedged from his shoe between classes. The group of about 6 incoming freshman in Wallace hall that started our own subgroup of ASAE that is now many years later called "learning communities" when we just thought it was a good idea and we always had such a good time getting through with the support of others in the group.
P.S. Was a dam ever built on the Corbin farm that so many students put so much time into designing???
