Events
Part of the mission of hoop research is to provide opportunities for researchers and producers from around the world to learn from one another in a communal scientific environment. Conferences and symposia allow experts and novices alike to experience a one-of-a-kind forum for education, discussion, and innovation. The following list of hoop-related events will be updated as new material warrants.
Conferences
Title: National Conference on Hoop Barns and Bedded Systems for Livestock Production
Link: Hoop Barns & Bedded Systems for Livestock Production Conference
Date: 14-September-2004
Place: Gateway Center, Ames, IA
Type: Producer-oriented conference
Description: "Hoops are attracting increasing attention for their low-capital cost, competitive returns, and flexibility. Recent innovations have expanded hoop production beyond the initial focus on swine finishing. Alternatives include providing shelter to sows and piglets, dairy and beef cattle, and other livestock systems."
Symposia
Title: Alternative Swine Housing Systems: An International Scientific Symposium
Link: Hoop Barns & Bedded Systems for Livestock Production Conference
Date: 15-September-2004
Place: Ensminger Room, Kildee Hall, Iowa State University, Ames, IA
Type: Scientific Symposium
Description: "Over the past decade a variety of innovative swine housing systems have been developed as alternatives to conventional confinements. Many of these systems are a direct response to pressures related to facility investment, the environment, animal welfare, and other concerns of farmers, consumers and the public about the way livestock are raised.
This symposium was an opportunity for scientists and engineers working with these systems to share their latest results, and discuss the research needed to ensure these systems achieve their intended goals. Researchers attended from Australia, Canada, The Netherlands, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Moracco, Korea, and across the United States."
