The goals of the ABE Living Community are: (1) to provide a living experience more conducive to academic and social success; and (2) to develop greater unity and collaboration between Ag Engineering (AE) and Ag System Technology (AST) students. Both majors are administered by the ABE department and the same faculty. Although not all members of the ABE Learning Community are in the Living Community, all Living Community members are part of the ABE Learning Community.

The ABE Living Community provides exclusive preferential housing for both first- and second-year Ag Engineering (AE) and Ag System Technology (AST) students, located on the 3rd floor of newly renovated Maple Hall.  Features of the floor include:

• Computer and study rooms
• Ethernet internet access
• Semi-private bathrooms
• Individual room sinks
• One or two students per room
• Air conditioning with individual controls
• Lofts, desks, wardrobes, and filing cabinets in each room
• A full kitchen and dining area

Members of the ABE Living Community agree to participate in these activities:

• membership and activie participation in a campus organization
• personal development activities, such as attending campus lectures or cultural events
• community service, such as the Habitat for Humanity Blitz Build

The ABE Living Community provides an in-residence peer mentor to assist students with academic and social issues. ISU’s Department of Residence also provides enhanced academic support for ABE students on the floor.
