Abstract: the Aerial Pollutant Emissions from Animal Confinement Buildings (APECAB) project is currently planning to continuously measure only PM10 using a Tapered Element Oscillating Microbalance (TEOM) instrument equipped with a PM10 inlet. While this is quite appropriate given EPA’s regulations concerning PM10, TSP is important because it provides additional particle size information, and the larger particles carry odor, gases and pathogens, and deteriorate equipment and property. The APECAB project currently does not have resources to conduct TSP measurements.

We use National Center funds to conduct TSP measurements with two complementary methods: 1) gravimetrical integration of mean mass concentration of TSP over regular time periods, and 2) continuous monitoring of TSP using the TEOM to show instantaneous dynamic behavior of TSP emissions.
