It seems obvious, but the reason we grow soybeans is for the protein, oil, and other components they contain. It’s what truly determines the value of the crop to the end-user, and has a big influence on the price producers receive.
The marketplace doesn’t always provide this type of quality information. Yet it is important to know, especially as U.S. soybeans compete in world markets.
Each year, the American Soybean Association (ASA) in conjunction with the United Soybean Board (USB) sponsors a quality survey of the the U.S. soybean crop. The Grain Quality Laboratory at Iowa State University conducts the survey.
Soybean producers from around the country send in harvest samples of their crop. The samples are analyzed using NIR technology for moisture, protein, oil, and fiber.
The results are summarized and shared with producers and end-users, both domestic and foreign.
On this site, you’ll find results from previous years’ surveys, answers to frequently asked questions, and links to soybean-related sites that you might find interesting.
