Student Life
Student Clubs Student clubs in the ABE department have proven themselves to be tops in the nation, year in and year out. The student organization for agricultural engineering students is the
Iowa Student Engineering Branch of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers
(ASAE). The student organization for agricultural systems technology
(AST) students is the AST Club. Activities include club meetings and programs, social functions, attendance at state, regional, and national ASAE meetings, service activities, fundraising, and participation in VEISHEA. Meeting announcements are posted in the Student Display Board located in the main hallway or on their web pages:

Alpha Epsilon is the national Agricultural Engineering honorary society. The Iowa Pi Chapter was founded in 1971. Alpha Epsilon promotes the high ideals of the agricultural engineering profession and recognizes outstanding agricultural engineering students. Members are elected on the basis of academic attainment, character, and leadership ability.
Epsilon Pi Tau (EPT) is the international honorary for
professionals in Technology. The purposes of EPT are to:
- Promote and recognize academic excellence;
- Promote the contributions of professionals in technology;
- Encourage professional development and leadership in technology; and
Advance awareness of technology as an enduring and integral element of culture.
The Iowa State chapter of EPT includes Industrial Technology and Agricultural
Systems Technology students, graduates, and faculty. The ISU chapter has a
number of activities throughout the year. It sponsors seminars, forums, panel
discussions, and tours. EPT members gain valuable leadership experience
opportunities and participate in service learning projects.
To be eligible for EPT membership, students must be at least a second semester
sophomore and rank in the top 25% of their class in terms of academics,
leadership and character.
Dr. Tom Brumm (ABE) and
Dr. Steve Freeman (ITec and ABE) are co-trustees of the
Iowa State EPT chapter.
Student Mailboxes
Student mailboxes are located in the ABE Student Study Room (student lounge), 127 Davidson Hall. Each ABE student is assigned a mailbox number. This mailbox is a convenient way to get Student Branch or AST Club materials, corrected homework, and mail to students. Check your mailbox regularly.
